Headshot Session Tips
Because your eyes and face and the main attraction that connects your clients to your headshot, our goal is to have as few distractions as possible. Here are a few things to keep in mind when planning for your headshot session:
Dos for Headshots
Opt for solid colors of neutral, jewel or darker tones.
Layers generally look good on everyone and add depth and richness to your outfit without being overpowering. Textures are also great for adding depth and visual interest. How to: A crisp shirt under a blazer or knit sweater
Accessorize with caution. Choose accessories that will enhance your look without stealing the show. How to: Simple, understated pieces like a watch, earrings, or a delicate necklace can complement your outfit.
Wear something that is comfortable. If you are uncomfortable, it will show in your photos. You want to feel at ease so your true self will shine through!
Don'ts for Headshots
Avoid overly bright colors, busy patterns and distracting accessories that can take attention away from your face. Things to avoid: Stripes, plaids, complex designs, and neon colors.
Avoid logos and graphics on shirts unless you are intentionally advertising for that company.
Avoid getting a new hairstyle right before the shoot—either allow time for a fresh cut to grow-in or allow for time to practice styling a new look.
